The Melanesian Institute is an ecumenical research and teaching institute, designed to help member churches speak more clearly to the needs of the people in Melanesia. It does this by studying the Melanesian cultural traditions and taking them more seriously.

The Staff offer their service in three ways:

  • through teaching,

  • research and

  • publications.

Staff members are available for seminars, in-service courses and cultural orientation courses, both for church groups and others concerned with the needs and aspirations of Melanesian peoples. They carry out research projects according to their fields of interest and expertise, both as group and as individuals, in areas of pastoral and socio-economic concern. The results of this research are communicated through courses, seminars, and are also made available in a variety of publications including CATALYSTPOINT SERIES and OCCASIONAL PAPERS.
