Welcome to the Melanesian Institute Library

The library have approximately 13,000 plus items in the library (books, journals, maps, audio visual materials that are relevant to Melanesian cultures etc.). The main library building contains a conference room, a staff office, a study room for students and other library users. The second library building containing rare books and journal sets, maps, audio visual materials and also archival materials and documents of the Melanesian Institute and a small conference room for meetings. It houses one of the country's most valuable collections of cultural information relating to Papua New Guinea. It is a specialised library, focusing on the social sciences, as they record the history, development and analysis of Melanesian cultures from many different aspects.

The major purpose of the library is to assist Melanesian Institute Research staff and visiting researchers from overseas. It also services Goroka University and other institutions' students.  This library does NOT allow people to borrow materials or take them out. Photocopying services are available for a small fee.
